The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (Release 1) is the latest nationally accredited unit that provides you with the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This unit will help you learn to respond to an emergency situation, apply appropriate first aid procedures, communicate details of the incident and review the incident.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no prerequisites required to enter this course. However, it is preferred that students:
•18 years old or over (under 18 must have parent/guardian signed consent)
•Have sound Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy skills*
•Have good general health and fitness for practicals

Physical attributes requirements:
Each of the units of competency that this strategy applies to specifies that students must, among other things, be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor, to be deemed as competent. They also must be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.

Students must also be able to perform manual handling tasks safely. Therefore, prospective students need to have the physical attributes to be able to:
•Bring themselves to floor level to perform the above task.
•Perform each of the above tasks uninterrupted for two minutes.
•Have the physical capacity to perform manual handling tasks safely.

VET Students must have direct access to:
• A computer with Internet access with a reliable speed of at least 5mbps
• Google Chrome (recommended browser)
• MS Word, PowerPoint, or equivalent applications.
• Adobe Acrobat Reader or equivalent application

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

Due to the ARC guidelines, RPL is not applicable to this course. ARC guidelines require first aid certification to be renewed every three (3) years.

What are the qualification pathways after taking the course?

 Learners may also consider additional training to complement their skills in first aid with units such as:
